malawiMalawi is a small and very beautiful country in south-eastern Africa with a population of over 13 million. It is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. Although there has been some recent progress child and infant mortality rates remain high. One in 8 children in Malawi will die before their 5th birthday. Most of these deaths are preventable.

The Malawian health care system faces serious shortages of trained health personnel, essential drugs and medical supplies. Healthcare workers work hard in difficult circumstances but often lack the skills and equipment to save sick children.
